A Portmore-raised Jamaican creator working at the intersection of roots reggae, dancehall, hip-hop and experimental music — building a catalogue that moves between sound system tradition and forward-facing global production.
Music without borders.
Born Romario Sebastian Anthony Bennett and raised in Portmore, Runkus grew up inside Jamaican music culture. The son of reggae artist Determine and booking agent/manager Paula Francis, he began recording as a child and developed into a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans performance, songwriting, production and scoring.
Runkus treats reggae as a foundation rather than a boundary — folding roots, dancehall, hip-hop, soul, bass music and experimental textures into a sound that remains recognizably Jamaican while refusing a fixed genre box.
He began recording at age seven, made a collaborative mixtape with his father as a teenager, and won an RETV talent search while still young. His early band work developed into a solo path that produced Move In (2016), the lockdown-created IN:SIDE (2021), the Toddla T collaboration OUT:SIDE (2022), and the expansive SUPERNOVA (2026).
Across that run, Runkus has worked with and alongside artists including Sean Paul, Tarrus Riley, Toddla T, Jesse Royal, The Skints and Naomi Cowan. His 2026 era also pushed further into visual art through collaboration with Bahamian conceptual artist Tavares Strachan, connecting the music of SUPERNOVA with Strachan's broader art practice.
In August 2026, Runkus headlined Kingston Creative's MoBay Creative Arts Festival, with The Gleaner describing his sound as a blend of reggae, dancehall, hip-hop and experimental music. The publication also noted contributions to projects by Jesse Royal, Protoje and Naomi Cowan.
SUPER
NOVA
Built around transformation, identity, life and death, SUPERNOVA pairs Runkus' roots consciousness with bass-heavy dancehall, hip-hop inflection and art-world ambition. The record includes appearances from Sean Paul and Peter Tosh, while its visual-art framework developed alongside Tavares Strachan.
